Is there any way to use git from there? the interface doesn't seem very enlightning. Matlab help assumes you have a local matlab installation.

I've never used the online version of MATLAB but I think I found an answer to your question. From the MathWorks MATLAB Answers forum (Git on Matlab online):
Currently git integration / source control integration is not supported in MATLAB Online. I have brought this request to the notice of concerned staff members. This might be implemented in a future release.
